Citizens Financial Earnings Preview: What to Expect

Rhode Island-based Citizens Financial Group, Inc. (CFG) is a leading regional banking company that provides consumer and commercial banking, wealth management, and capital-markets services. Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, Citizens serves individuals, small businesses, middle-market companies, and institutional clients through its banking network and digital platforms.  It's currently valued at $27.3 billion by market cap. 

The banking titan is expected to announce its fiscal third-quarter earnings for 2026 before the market opens on Friday, Oct. 16. Ahead of the event, analysts expect CFG to report a profit of $1.38 per share on a diluted basis, up 31.4% from $1.05 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company has consistently surpassed Wall Street’s EPS estimates in its last four quarterly reports. 

For the current year, analysts expect CFG to report EPS of $5.29, up 37.1% from $3.86 in fiscal 2025. Its EPS is expected to rise 23.3% year over year to $6.52 in fiscal 2027.

CFG stock has climbed 19.1% over the past year, outperforming the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 15.2% gains and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLF) marginal fall over the same time frame.

Citizens Financial Group has outpaced the broader market over the past year, supported by improving earnings power and stronger revenue momentum. Growth in net interest income, capital-markets and wealth-management fees, alongside expanding net interest margins, has boosted profitability. 

The company recently announced it will redeem all 300,000 outstanding Series G preferred shares on Oct. 6, 2026, at a redemption price of $1,000 per share. 

Analysts’ consensus opinion on CFG stock is highly bullish, with a “Strong Buy” rating overall. Out of 20 analysts covering the stock, 14 advise a “Strong Buy” rating, two suggest a “Moderate Buy,” and four give a “Hold.” CFG’s average analyst price target is $80.05, indicating a potential upside of 25.3% from the current levels.
