Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) stock is rising Wednesday as technology stocks gain after inflation data came in lower than economists expected. No single Adobe announcement released Wednesday accounts for the move.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis released data Wednesday showing the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index, the inflation measure the Federal Reserve prefers, rose 0.3% month over month. Economists expected 0.4%. The Nasdaq is up 0.65% and the S&P 500 has gained 0.37%. Technology leads all sectors with a 0.8% gain.
Adobe trades well below its 2024 highs and is down 32.04% year to date. According to Benzinga Pro, its forward price-to-earnings ratio, which compares the stock price with expected earnings, is 8.45 times, highlighting the significant valuation discount investors are currently assigning to Adobe relative to its industry peers.
The stock has traded 1.576 million shares so far Wednesday, well below its 100-day average of 5.391 million shares, indicating the day’s gain is occurring on relatively light volume.
On Monday, Adobe forecast $275.1 billion in U.S. online holiday spending for Nov. 1–Dec. 31, up 6.7% year-over-year. The forecast draws on its Adobe Analytics commerce business.
Adobe’s artificial intelligence annual recurring revenue grew more than 150% year over year in fiscal third quarter. The company also surpassed one billion monthly active users.
Even with Wednesday’s strength, Adobe is still in a longer-term downtrend: it’s down 32.48% over the past 12 months and remains below its 200-day SMA ($261.01) and 50-day SMA ($257.48). The stock is also trading 5.2% below its 20-day SMA ($251.29), which tells you the recent bounce hasn’t yet flipped the short-term trend back to "up."
The moving-average structure stays heavy, with the 20-day SMA below the 50-day SMA and the 50-day SMA below the 200-day SMA — two bearish crossover signals that often act like "overhead traffic" on rallies. Practically, that means rebounds can stall quickly unless price can reclaim those averages and hold them.
Key levels are tight enough to matter for swing traders watching whether this bounce can build into something bigger:
