Those following along with FirstRand Limited (JSE:FSR) will no doubt be intrigued by the recent purchase of shares by Mary Vilakazi, CEO & Executive Director of the company, who spent a stonking R20m on stock at an average price of R93.86. Not only is that a big swing, but it increased their holding size by 24%, which is definitely great to see.
Notably, that recent purchase by Mary Vilakazi is the biggest insider purchase of FirstRand shares that we've seen in the last year. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being R91.67). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
