UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Glendberg urged Yemen's Houthis on October 1 to stop their military offensive in Taiz province in the southwestern part of the country. Glendbury issued a statement on a social media platform on the same day saying, “I am concerned about developments in Taiz Province. Local fighting has intensified significantly,” and that the Houthis military action poses a serious risk to civilians. Glendbury said he received “deeply disturbing reports of casualties, damage to infrastructure, and road closures,” and that road closures have restricted the evacuation of people from war-affected areas. He also said that they are currently maintaining close ties with the Yemeni government and the Houthis to communicate on urgent measures to control the situation and ensure the free passage of civilians.
