According to the Ministry of Commerce's official website, the G20 Trade Ministers Meeting was held in Milwaukee, USA from September 30 to October 1. Trade ministers or representatives of G20 members and guest countries attended the meeting. The parties exchanged views on topics set by the US side, such as opposing the weaponization of food, dealing with overcapacity, eliminating forced labor, and adjusting the most-favoured-nation treatment principle. The conference reached a joint statement on food issues, but no outcome documents were formed on other topics. Li Chenggang, representative of the People's Republic of China for international trade negotiations and vice-minister of the Ministry of Commerce, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Li Chenggang said that President Xi Jinping profoundly stated that the G20 should uphold the common concept of the destiny of mankind, forge international consensus in the fields of economy, trade, etc., and improve global governance. Facing the continuing impact of unilateralism, China calls on G20 members to practice multilateralism, support the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, jointly maintain and strengthen the cornerstone of the most-favoured-nation treatment principle, and inject stability and predictability into global trade. The G20 should maintain an open order through collective action, narrow the global divide through sustainable development, and unleash growth momentum through digital-intellectual cooperation. Li Chenggang pointed out that food security concerns human survival and national social stability. China has made positive contributions to global food security, and G20 members should actively reduce trade barriers and work together to maintain the stability and smooth flow of the food production supply chain. China has always adhered to the people-centered idea of development, attached great importance to the protection of workers' rights and interests, and called on all parties to dig deeper into trade potential, create more high-quality jobs, and ensure the inclusive sharing of growth results. On the issue of production capacity, a comprehensive objective dynamic analysis should be carried out from a global perspective, and cooperation rather than manufacturing rivalry should be discussed more. China is ready to actively engage in industrial policy dialogue and cooperation with all parties, enhance mutual trust by strengthening policy coordination, and jointly promote the healthy and sustainable development of the global industry. China resolutely opposes the reality of unilateralism and protectionism on the grounds of dealing with overcapacity and eliminating forced labor. During the meeting, Li Chenggang also held bilateral meetings or brief talks with heads of delegations from the United States, the European Union, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, South Korea, Poland, etc.
