Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Aurania Resources Ltd. (CVE:ARU) Executive Chairman, Keith Barron, recently bought CA$80k worth of stock, for CA$0.20 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, by either a percentage standpoint or absolute value, it can be seen as a good sign.
Notably, that recent purchase by Executive Chairman Keith Barron was not the only time they bought Aurania Resources shares this year. They previously made an even bigger purchase of CA$500k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.12 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (CA$0.18), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.
Keith Barron purchased 6.23m shares over the year. The average price per share was CA$0.14. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Aurania Resources is not the only stock that insiders are buying. For those who like to find small cap companies at attractive valuations, this free list of growing companies with recent insider purchasing, could be just the ticket.
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It's great to see that Aurania Resources insiders own 44% of the company, worth about CA$12m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
It is good to see the recent insider purchase. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Aurania Resources insiders are well aligned, and quite possibly think the share price is too low. That's what I like to see! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. At Simply Wall St, we've found that Aurania Resources has 5 warning signs (3 are significant!) that deserve your attention before going any further with your analysis.
