XPeng has been busy pushing into robotaxis, humanoid robots and global EV expansion, yet the share price outcome over this review window tells a very different story. For XPeng shareholders, the loss over the past year was 59.9%, including dividends. If you had bought in on 2 October 2025 using the bullish case of 31.6% revenue growth, a 4.6% profit margin and a 40.8x future P/E, what exactly did that thesis fail to allow for?
XPeng is not the only name tied to this theme. Zero in on 89 robotics and automation stocks and compare how each one is priced.
XPeng shares cost US$23.81 at the start, and you had to decide which story about its future you trusted more.
The bullish Narrative pointed to a Fair Value of US$26.29, the price implied if its assumptions played out, built on 31.6% annual revenue growth and a shift to a 4.6% profit margin over three years.
The bearish case suggested a Fair Value of US$18.06, based on slower 21.3% revenue growth and concern that rising global competition could trigger price wars and pressure XPeng margins.
XPeng pushed deeper into physical AI with what it describes as China’s first mass-produced L4 robotaxi and progress on its IRON humanoid robot, which supported the bullish focus on proprietary technology and new products. The Q2 2026 numbers told a different story. Revenue reached CNY 19,743.593m, yet the firm reported a larger loss of CNY 1,337.064m and a weaker net margin of -6.8%. The evidence cut both ways.
The big assumption was that rapid AI and EV expansion would quickly lift profitability. When you test a similar story elsewhere, track whether revenue, absolute profit, and net margin are all moving toward the forecast, not just headline delivery or product announcements.
XPeng trades at US$9.25 today after falling 59.9% over the past year. The selected Narrative still places its Fair Value above the current price, built around AI hardware, smart vehicles, premium models, and robotics that together could lift margins and broaden revenue.
The question is whether a buyer now believes XPeng can turn its AI platforms, overseas rollout, and robotics spend into durable software-heavy earnings despite ongoing losses, heavy capital needs, and intense China auto competition.
"XPeng's rapid in-house development and deployment of proprietary AI hardware (Turing AI SoC) and vision-based ADAS are expected to significantly advance its vehicle autonomy and smart cockpit solutions. This is described as aligning with surging consumer demand for intelligent, software-centric vehicles and setting the stage for higher-margin software revenue and enhanced gross/net margins."
