The non-profit organization United Against Nuclear Iran said that the US blockade of Iran has caused dozens of fully loaded oil tankers to be stranded off the coast of Iran, while others located outside the Persian Gulf are anchored off the coast of Sri Lanka. The organization said in a shipping report released on October 5 that at least 50 tankers carrying Iranian oil are still stranded near Iran, roughly the same number as two months ago. These vessels mainly carry crude oil, but also petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas. According to UANI, other empty ships are anchored at anchorages across the Indo-Pacific Ocean and are unable to return to Iranian ports due to the US blockade. Twenty Iranian-flagged vessels are located off the coast of Sri Lanka and one off the coast of Oman.
