Houston, Texas-based CenterPoint Energy, Inc. (CNP) is a major U.S. utility serving customers through its electric and natural gas businesses. Valued at a market cap of $28.1 billion, the company is positioned to benefit from steady demand for essential energy services while continuing to invest in its utility infrastructure.
CenterPoint is set to report its Q3 2026 earnings on Tuesday, Oct. 27, before the market opens. As the earnings approach, analysts expect the company’s EPS to be $0.49 on a diluted basis, down 2% from $0.50 in the year-ago quarter. Moreover, its recent earnings track record has been uneven, with CNP beating estimates in just two of the past four quarters and missing in the other two.
Looking ahead, analysts expect earnings growth to pick up. Fiscal 2026 EPS is projected to rise 8.5% to $1.91, from $1.76 in fiscal 2025, followed by another 8.9% increase to $2.08 in fiscal 2027.
CNP stock has dipped 2.9% over the past 52 weeks, underperforming the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 15.8% rise but outpacing the State Street Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLU) 10.1% fall during the same time frame.
On Sept. 24, CenterPoint Energy’s board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.24 per share, payable on December 10, 2026, to shareholders of record as of November 19, 2026.
On the same day, CenterPoint secured a $50 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy to modernize its electric grid in the Houston area. The investment will support advanced substation technology designed to strengthen reliability, expand capacity, and help meet the region’s rapidly growing power demand. The project is also expected to create more than 500 local jobs and position CenterPoint among the first U.S. utilities to deploy Siemens Energy’s advanced grid-stabilizing technology.
Analysts are somewhat bullish on CNP, with the stock having a “Moderate Buy” rating overall. Among the 19 analysts covering the stock, eight are recommending a “Strong Buy,” and 11 recommend “Hold” for the stock. CNP’s average analyst price target is $45.06, indicating an upside of 19.4% from the current levels.
