The reporter learned from China Southern Power Grid Yunnan Power Grid Corporation that on October 8, the cumulative power transmission capacity of the China-Lao 500 kV network project exceeded 1 billion kilowatt-hours. The China-Laos 500 kV network project was officially put into operation on April 20. The photovoltaic power from the clean energy base in northern Laos was delivered to Yunnan through this channel on the same day. As cooperation continues to deepen, on August 6, Laos's hydropower will be delivered to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through this project. The current transmission is expected to continue until the end of October, with a total transmission volume of about 600 million kilowatt-hours. The relevant electricity volume will participate simultaneously in the southern regional electricity market transaction. According to information, relying on the cross-border trading mechanism of the electricity market in southern China, surplus hydropower from Laos will continue to supply the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area during the flood season. In 2026, the amount of electricity delivered through the China-Laos 500 kV network project to participate in market-based transactions is expected to reach 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours.
