One thing we could say about the analysts on Fermentalg SA (EPA:ALGAE) - they aren't optimistic, having just made a major negative revision to their near-term (statutory) forecasts for the organization. This report focused on revenue estimates, and it looks as though the consensus view of the business has become substantially more conservative.
After this downgrade, Fermentalg's two analysts are now forecasting revenues of €16m in 2026. This would be a notable 20% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Losses are expected to be contained, narrowing 15% per share from last year to €0.082 per share. Yet before this consensus update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of €19m and losses of €0.077 per share in 2026. Ergo, there's been a clear change in sentiment, with the analysts administering a notable cut to this year's revenue estimates, while at the same time increasing their loss per share forecasts.

The consensus price target fell 8.6% to €0.58, with the analysts clearly concerned about the company following the weaker revenue and earnings outlook.
Looking at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can make sense of these forecasts is to see how they measure up against both past performance and industry growth estimates. It's clear from the latest estimates that Fermentalg's rate of growth is expected to accelerate meaningfully, with the forecast 44% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2026 noticeably faster than its historical growth of 22% p.a. over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 5.0% per year. Factoring in the forecast acceleration in revenue, it's pretty clear that Fermentalg is expected to grow much faster than its industry.
The most important thing to note from this downgrade is that the consensus increased its forecast losses this year, suggesting all may not be well at Fermentalg. Unfortunately, analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, although our data indicates revenues are expected to perform better than the wider market. Furthermore, there was a cut to the price target, suggesting that the latest news has led to more pessimism about the intrinsic value of the business. Given the stark change in sentiment, we'd understand if investors became more cautious on Fermentalg after today.
With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. At least one analyst has provided forecasts out to 2028, which can be seen for free on our platform here.
