03:25 AM EDT, 10/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK's aviation regulator unveiled new measures to drive efficiency and transparency for Heathrow Airport's planned expansion. A new independent capital committee will be formed to oversee the planned development of the third runway, the Civil Aviation Authority said Friday. A longer-term framework over regulatory returns will also be established to cut costs and benefit consumers. The new arrangements, which will be further developed during the remainder of 2026 and 2027, also include enhanced oversight of procurement activity and increased use of competition for new assets. Applications for development consent for the project are expected at the end of 2027.
