08:31 AM EDT, 10/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK's Competition and Markets Authority is considering legally binding undertakings offered by Macquarie to resolve competition concerns over its proposed purchase of multi-utility metering company Energy Assets Group, or EAG. Under the proposed remedies, EAG would sell its non-domestic, non-smart gas metering services business to an "approved purchaser who can maintain it as a viable competitor in the market." The regulator said Friday that the remedies could in principle address the competition concerns it raised in its phase 1 investigation. The CMA said it will now examine the proposals "in more detail" over the next 40 working days, including seeking third-party feedback and considering potential buyers. It will conditionally clear the deal if it is satisfied that the remedies effectively address its concerns, and can otherwise still refer it to a phase 2 investigation.
