A Canadian cybersecurity executive has held senior positions at various companies that specialize in helping data breach victims negotiate ransom payments with cybercriminals. Today, the executive is being prosecuted in a federal hacking and data extortion case. According to court documents, Edward Dubrovnik also recently published a book explaining how to deal with online extortion, but he is now charged with conspiring to commit similar crimes: threatening to leak stolen or intrude into obtained data, and interfering with cross-state commercial activities through extortion.
