iQIYI has packed 2026 with headlines, from double digit revenue declines and fresh quarterly losses to an aggressive AI push through its Nadou Pro platform and a planned Hong Kong listing. Investors who held iQIYI from the start of the year are down 49.8%, including dividends. If you had put money in on 1 January, the pressing question now is whether the heavy loss reflects fixable issues or a deeper problem with the long-form streaming model.
The easy part of this move is behind iQIYI. Zero in on 29 high quality undervalued stocks for companies trading below our estimates.
The shares cost US$1.92 at the start of the period, and iQIYI sat between two very different stories about its future.
The bullish view argued that premium originals and overseas reach could significantly widen the audience. That camp saw a Fair Value of US$2.44, a price implied by assumptions like revenue growing 1.8% a year and profit margins reaching 4.3% over three years.
The bearish side focused on pressure points. Regulatory crackdowns, piracy and changing viewing habits were front and center, with a Fair Value of US$1 that assumed revenue would decline 0.4% annually even if margins improved.
iQIYI’s Q2 2026 update showed total revenue slipping to RMB 6.29b, with net loss widening to RMB 287.5m and net margin falling to 4.6%. That outcome challenged the bullish view that modest top-line expansion and higher profitability were close. Membership resilience and overseas traction helped, but the evidence cut both ways and left the profitability pillar unproven.
The lesson is simple. When a bullish case leans on margin repair, track the reported net margin each quarter and compare it with the path implied in the original thesis before judging any setback as temporary.
With iQIYI now at US$1.02, the selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits above the current price and rests on a more optimistic view of the business than the market is pricing in.
The Narrative leans on iQIYI turning multi-format hits, AI tools and offline experiences into higher engagement and steadier monetization. A buyer today would be assuming that this broader content and IP push can support meaningfully stronger earnings power over time.
"iQIYI's multi-format, blockbuster content and expansion into premium and offline experiences are driving higher engagement, diversified revenue, and a lead in multiple entertainment segments. Regulatory changes and advanced AI adoption position iQIYI for faster growth, more resilient margins, and broad monetization opportunities beyond volatile ad cycles."
