Nvidia and Cisco jointly launched the USFP, a new pluggable optical module with the aim of expanding the network size of AI factories. USFP is the first module to support 400Gb/s electrical signals per channel. The maximum capacity of a single module can reach 12.8 Tb/s, enabling AI builders to connect to more computing systems without increasing the network level, while reducing the transmission power consumption per bit of data. Compared with existing 200Gb/s-per-lane optical modules, USFP's bandwidth density is increased by 4 times, and energy efficiency is increased 1.3 times. Nvidia and Cisco are partnering with TE Connectivity and Amphenol to build a multi-source hardware ecosystem around USFP.
