The Peruvian government plans to establish a new licensing mechanism for informal miners, giving miners two years to meet compliance requirements. This copper-rich country is facing the problem of widespread illegal mining. A Ministry of Energy and Mining spokesperson said that the Ministry of Energy and Mining will submit relevant proposals to the National Assembly this week. The new mechanism aims to regulate artisanal and small-scale mining activities. The proposal plans to legalize the status of around 30,000 miners by the end of 2028, replacing the current comprehensive mining registration system Reinfo. People in the mining industry believe the Reinfo system has been used to cover illegal mining activities, and the system will expire at the end of this year. Peru has many of the world's largest copper deposits, and is also the largest producer of gold in South America.
