South Korea's Kakao announced Kanana Space, an integrated AI assistant service on Tuesday. The product will begin closed testing in December, after which it will launch its popular messaging software KakaoTalk. Kakao CEO Chung Shin-a said, “We will move from a graphical user interface to a language user interface. The new interface can understand the speaker's context and intention, and create a user experience that can smoothly issue instructions and perform tasks quickly.” According to the conference presentation, Kanana Space uses a layered AI architecture. It can recommend sportswear based on weather and user sports data, and can also read users' chat history within KakaoTalk to help plan the schedule. Kakao also introduced the technical strategy of Kanana, the basic big model that supports this service. The executive responsible for basic model development said, “Our principle is to provide optimal results for various needs, but not all tasks use the largest version of the model.” The executive added that Kakao uses multi-teacher online strategies to distill this AI post-training technology to guarantee the performance of small-sized language models.
