With a market cap of $26.6 billion, DTE Energy Company (DTE) generates, distributes, and sells electricity and natural gas to millions of residential, commercial, and industrial customers across Michigan. Through its Electric, Gas, DTE Vantage, and Energy Trading segments, the company delivers power from coal, nuclear, wind, and solar sources, manages extensive transmission and distribution networks, and provides industrial energy and infrastructure services.
The Detroit, Michigan-based company is expected to unveil its fiscal Q3 2026 results soon. Before the event, analysts anticipate DTE to report an adjusted EPS of $2.47, up 9.8% from $2.25 in the year-ago quarter. It has exceeded Wall Street's bottom-line estimates in three of the past four quarters while missing on another occasion.
For fiscal 2026, analysts predict DTE Energy to report adjusted EPS of $7.71, a rise of 4.8% from $7.36 in fiscal 2025. Moreover, adjusted EPS is projected to grow over 8% year-over-year to $8.33 in fiscal 2027.
DTE stock has fallen 8.7% over the past 52 weeks, lagging behind the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 19.2% return and the State Street Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF's (XLU) 8% decline over the same period.
Despite reporting better-than-expected Q2 2026 adjusted EPS of $1.32, DTE shares fell marginally on Jul. 28 as investors focused on weaker core utility performance, with electric segment profit down 15% to $270 million due to higher rate-base costs, unfavorable weather and tax-related timing. The gas segment also swung to a $4 million loss from a $6 million profit a year earlier, highlighting pressure across DTE’s regulated operations despite a 70.8% increase in quarterly operating profit from its energy trading unit.
Analysts' consensus rating on DTE stock is cautiously optimistic, with a "Moderate Buy" rating overall. Out of 18 analysts covering the stock, opinions include eight "Strong Buys," one "Moderate Buy," and nine "Holds." This configuration is slightly less bullish than three months ago, with nine analysts suggesting a "Strong Buy."
The average analyst price target is $150.83, indicating a potential upside of 17.8% from the current levels.
