Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook said she was unable to attend the November 5 White House hearing as part of a new investigation launched by US President Donald Trump into mortgage fraud allegations against Cook. Cook's attorney Abbe Lowell said in a letter to the White House on Tuesday that Cook will “attend financial and monetary policy meetings in Europe and perform his official duties as the governor of the Federal Reserve.” Lowell wrote that in order for Cook to have enough time to prepare and coordinate other scheduling conflicts, the hearing must be scheduled after the Federal Reserve's December 8-9 meeting. Trump signed a memorandum last week announcing that a committee will be formed to investigate his allegations that Cook has committed mortgage fraud. He said Cook must go to the White House to attend a hearing to defend himself. The investigation marks the latest escalation in Trump's move to remove Cook.
