Ofcom Flags Ongoing Concerns Over X's Response to Illegal Hate, Terror Content

09:23 AM EDT, 10/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK Office of Communications, or Ofcom, said it continues to have ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of how social media platform X takes down suspected illegal hate and terror content, according to a Wednesday notice. The concerns come after the regulator reviewed X's first quarterly report on how it handles such content reported by users. The regulator said the latest data "appears to show some improvements" in the average time the platform takes to respond to reports compared with evidence analyzed earlier in 2026, and that performance falls within the agreed response timeframes. Ofcom said it will cross-check the report's performance metrics against its own tests, and expects to publish further analysis in its next update early in the new year once it receives more data.
