The European Commission announced on October 14 that it plans to postpone implementation of some provisions relating to fossil fuel importers in the EU's “Methane Emissions Regulations” for one year to reduce the burden on enterprises and member countries' administrations and ease the pressure on energy supply. According to the proposal, the deferred implementation regulations mainly relate to the methane emission monitoring, reporting and verification obligations of importers of natural gas, oil and coal, as well as methane emission intensity reporting requirements for importers and producers within the EU.
