Comet’s half year webcast at the end of July put hard numbers around a story investors had been arguing about since long before 2026 started. Investors who held Comet from the start of the year are up 43.7%, including dividends. If you were deciding back on 1 January whether to buy into Malaysia expansion plans and products like Synertia, what assumptions about future earnings power would have needed to feel credible?
On Simply Wall St, a Narrative is an investor's thesis written down: the reasoning, plus the numbers it rests on. Run those numbers and you get an estimated Fair Value.
Comet has already moved. Pinpoint other ways to investigate the theme among 16 nuclear energy infrastructure stocks.
The shares cost CHF225 at the start of the period, and Comet sat between two sharply different but reasonable stories about its future earnings power.
On the bullish side, one narrative put Fair Value at CHF390, 73% above the start price. This was built on the idea that Industry 4.0, AI and Synertia could support 16.3% annual revenue growth and a profit margin rising from 8.1% to 17.9%.
The bearish view anchored Fair Value at CHF196, 13% below the start price. It focused on deglobalization and tariff pressure, with assumptions of 12.0% yearly revenue growth and margins rising only to 14.9%.
The half year 2026 report gave Comet holders one clean datapoint to test both stories. Revenue rose to CHF239.8m and net income increased to CHF13.5m, with net margin moving from 4.4% to 5.6%. Profitability improved but still sat well below the bullish margin ambitions, so the evidence leaned toward the cautious case rather than fully backing the optimists.
The lesson for your next idea is simple. When a thesis leans on margin expansion, watch net margin first and the P/E you are implicitly paying for that future step up.
Comet now trades at CHF347, up sharply from CHF225. The selected Narrative still places its Fair Value above that level, based on a mix of growth in Asia, product strength and exposure to recurring high-value work.
The core question for any buyer is whether Comet can keep expanding Asian manufacturing and services fast enough to support that higher figure.
"Expanding end-markets, innovation leadership, and strategic growth in Asia position Comet for long-term revenue stability, premium margins, and greater exposure to recurring high-value opportunities."
