11:51 AM EDT, 10/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- German equities were higher on Wednesday, with the blue-chip DAX index closing 0.15% higher, following the release of the latest inflation print from the US and wholesale price data from the eurozone's largest economy. Germany's selling prices in wholesale trade were up 8.7% year over year in September, after a 6.8% increase in August. On a monthly basis, wholesale prices were 1.9% higher, compared with the consensus estimate of a 0.6% gain. "The price increase registered in September 2026 was still attributable to the conflict in Iran and the Middle East, which resulted in higher wholesale prices of energy products and intermediate goods such as metals, in particular," Destatis said. "The main reason for the year-on-year increase in wholesale prices (total) in September 2026 was the increase in the prices of mineral oil products, with prices up 48.8% from September 2025." Across the pond, US consumer prices rose 3.7% year over year in September, accelerating from 3.4% in August and exceeding economists' expectations of 3.6%. Higher gasoline prices drove much of the increase, potentially complicating the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions. On the trade front, Bloomberg News reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Berlin intends to push the European Union to implement import caps on select Chinese goods. The German government will ask the European Commission to implement so-called safeguard measures across sectors like chemicals, mechanical engineering, and potentially pharmaceuticals before the end of 2026. In corporate news, Siemens AG (SIE.F) strengthened its position in the artificial intelligence data center industry through its investment and partnership with Skeleton Technologies. As part of the deal, the German technology company will integrate Skeleton's supercapacitors into its AI data center electrical systems, while securing exclusive sales rights for the Estonian energy storage company's products in the data center market. Siemens ended the trading day 0.20% in the green. Meanwhile, Mutares (MUX.F) is working with financial advisers to explore strategic exits for Nord Gas Solutions, including a potential initial public offering in the Nordic region in the coming months. While no final decision has been made and a transaction is not guaranteed, the private equity company expects to retain a "significant" stake in the company if a public listing proceeds. Mutares was up 3.30% on Xetra.
