Valued at a market cap of $119.5 billion, Altria Group, Inc. (MO) operates in the tobacco and nicotine product sector. Through its subsidiaries, it manufactures and sells smokeable and oral tobacco products, including well-known brands like Marlboro, Copenhagen, and Black & Mild. The company is slated to announce its fiscal Q3 2026 results before the market opens on Thursday, Oct. 29.
Ahead of this event, analysts expect the tobacco company to report an adjusted EPS of $1.50, a 3.5% rise from $1.45 in the year-ago quarter. The company has surpassed Wall Street's bottom-line estimates in two of the past four quarters while missing on two other occasions.
For fiscal 2026, analysts forecast Altria Group to post adjusted EPS of $5.67, a rise of 4.6% from $5.42 in fiscal 2025.
Shares of Altria Group have increased 10.6% over the past 52 weeks, underperforming the broader S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 16.7% gain. However, the stock has outpaced the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF's (XLP) 7.2% return over the same period on a YTD basis.
Altria Group shares fell 9.3% on Jul. 30 due to weaker-than-expected Q2 2026 adjusted EPS of $1.48 and net revenue, excluding excise taxes, of $5.356 billion. Investor concerns were fueled by declining product volumes, as domestic cigarette shipments fell 3.2% to 15.55 billion sticks (an estimated 4.5% decline excluding trade inventory movements), while oral tobacco revenue dropped 5.3% to $713 million, shipment volumes declined 8.5% to 181.7 million cans, and adjusted operating income in the segment fell 8% to $460 million.
Additional pressure came from on!’s nicotine-pouch category share declining 170 basis points year-over-year to 14.4% and higher planned capital expenditures of $375 million - $450 million.
Analysts' consensus view on MO stock remains cautiously optimistic, with a "Moderate Buy" rating overall.
