How to Play Micron Stock Below $1,000

Barchart·10/15/2026 08:55:07
Listen to the news

Micron Technology (MU) has emerged as one of Wall Street’s standout performers in 2026, with shares surging 230% year-to-date (YTD). That winning streak hit a speed bump on Monday, Oct. 12, when MU stock slipped below $1,000 for the first time since Thursday, Sep. 17.

The pullback came after the stock retreated from its 52-week high of $1,255, reached on June 25, as investors responded to a significant development from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT). China’s leading memory chip manufacturer’s latest technological advance is expected to enable more efficient memory chips that store more data in less space.

The news rattled sentiment around Micron, sending its shares down 3.9% on Monday and extending losses by a similar magnitude on Tuesday. Yet, a stumble is hardly a collapse for a company that has become a semiconductor heavyweight, with a market cap of about $1.1 trillion.

CXMT’s progress could shift the competitive landscape, but competition is only part of the story. Artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is reshaping demand across the industry, and Micron’s fundamentals point to stronger momentum.

About Micron Stock

The Boise, Idaho-based Micron Technology develops and supplies memory and storage solutions for customers globally. Its portfolio spans DRAM, High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM), NAND flash, and NOR memory, technologies that support everything from data centers and computers to smartphones, automotive systems, and embedded devices.

The stock’s performance has been extraordinary, with Micron’s shares climbing 403.9% over the past 52 weeks. The momentum has hardly faded in recent months, with the stock up 102.4% in the last six months, underscoring Micron’s position in the expanding AI memory market.

Beyond the impressive rally, valuation offers another angle to consider. MU stock is currently trading at 5.41 times forward adjusted earnings. The multiple sits at a discount to both the industry average and its own five-year average multiple, suggesting a relatively wise entry point for long-term investors.

Micron also returns some cash to shareholders through an annual dividend of $0.60 per share, translating into a yield of 0.06%. Its latest dividend payment of $0.15 per share is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29, with shareholders of record as of Wednesday, Oct. 14 eligible to receive it.

Micron Surpasses Q4 Earnings

On Sept. 30, Micron delivered record Q4 FY2026 results, sending its stock 3% higher in the following trading session. Revenue surged 379.3% year over year (YOY) to $54.2 billion, topping Street’s estimates of $50.95 billion. Non-GAAP EPS climbed 1003% from the year-ago value to $33.42, beating the Street’s forecast of $31.82.

The strength was broad-based, but memory demand did most of the heavy lifting. DRAM generated $39.8 billion in revenue, up 343% YOY and accounting for 73% of the total. NAND’s revenue soared 526% YOY to $14.1 billion, representing another 26% of company revenue.

Core Data Center revenue reached $18 billion, while Cloud Memory revenue climbed to $16.3 billion. Demand for HBM, server DRAM, and AI-focused storage underpinned the expansion, reflecting the growing importance of memory in systems designed to train and run increasingly sophisticated AI models.

Profitability rose alongside revenue. Non-GAAP gross margin expanded to 87%, up from 45.7% a year earlier, while non-GAAP operating margin climbed to 82.3% from 35%. Operating cash flow reached $44 billion and adjusted free cash flow totaled $33.2 billion for the quarter, providing considerable financial firepower.

The outlook also became more tangible, supported by approximately $150 billion in remaining performance obligations and $32 billion in customer financial commitments. Micron has additionally secured agreements covering the vast majority of its CY2027 HBM supply.

Looking ahead, management expects Q1 FY2027 revenue of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, alongside non-GAAP EPS of $38.15, plus or minus $1. Meanwhile, analysts forecast Q1 EPS to grow 722.8% YOY to $37.93. For FY2027, estimates call for EPS growth of 136.5% to $177.03, followed by a 17.1% YOY increase to $207.33 in FY2027.

What Do Analysts Expect for Micron Stock?

Wall Street remains firmly bullish on Micron, with the stock carrying an overall “Strong Buy” rating. Among the 42 analysts covering the name, 34 recommend a “Strong Buy,” five assign a “Moderate Buy,” and three rate the shares a “Hold.”

To that end, the average price target of $1,563.22 represents potential upside of 64%. Meanwhile, the Street-high target of $3,000 suggests a gain of 214.7% from current levels.
