Less than three weeks until the US congressional midterm elections, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other federal agencies are investigating some letters and packages containing “suspicious substances” sent to Congress and election agencies in many places, and reminding recipients to watch out for the “potential harm” of such emails. The Associated Press learned from Senate Security Officer documents obtained on the 15th that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Postal Inspection Service, and the Congressional Police are making efforts to intercept such emails, but some of them may have already reached their destination. Law enforcement officials intercepted a number of letters sent to the offices of several senators. An unnamed person familiar with the matter said that the House of Representatives does not appear to have been affected by the suspicious email incident, but is watching the developments.
