Manitowoc Is Up 76%, But The Story Isn't Finished

Listen to the news

If you only skimmed Manitowoc’s tariff headaches and soft demand warnings at the start of 2026, a strong outcome might look unlikely. Holding Manitowoc from the start of the year would have returned 76.4%, including dividends. That gain lands alongside later results showing higher revenue and a wider net margin in Q2 2026, compared with Q2 2025. If you had faced that early mix of growth hopes and leverage worries, what would you have focused on?

If the move has made Manitowoc harder to judge, start where the gap is still open and scan 33 high quality undervalued stocks.

The Two Manitowoc Stories Investors Had To Weigh

The shares cost US$11.99 at the start of the period, and Manitowoc sat between two competing stories about cranes, tariffs, and global building projects.

On the optimistic side, the bull narrative suggested a fair value of US$13, a price implied by its own assumptions, built on 4.6% annual revenue growth and profit margins settling at 1.6% as infrastructure spending in Europe and the Middle East supported crane demand and aftermarket services.

The bear view pointed to a fair value of US$11, again an implied figure, arguing that tariff driven pricing uncertainty, weak North American demand, and rising leverage could keep dealer orders subdued even as selected overseas markets stayed active.

What Manitowoc’s Results Actually Tested

The clearest datapoint came from Manitowoc’s Q2 2026 figures. Revenue reached US$594.9m versus US$539.5m in Q2 2025, and net income moved from US$1.5m to US$14.2m. Net margin shifted from 0.3% to 2.4%. That profitability beat both the 1.6% bull margin assumption and the 1.9% bear case. The evidence cut both ways but leaned toward the optimistic story.

The key assumption was whether Manitowoc could convert crane demand and services into higher profitability. When you test another industrial, start by lining up forecast margins against the reported net margin trend across at least two comparable quarters.

What Manitowoc’s Run Up 76% Now Prices In

Manitowoc trades at US$21.54, and the selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits below that level, which frames the current setup as rich rather than cheap.

The Narrative argues that CRANES+50, non new machine growth and tariff help already sit in expectations. The real question is whether buyers believe Manitowoc can turn lean, AI and balance sheet moves into lasting margin strength after temporary tariff benefits fade.

"The current valuation implies the share price already prices in sustained execution on CRANES+50, continued strength in orders and margins, and effective use of additional capital allocation flexibility. This bearish narrative views that as too optimistic and therefore overvalues Manitowoc Company."
