If you had picked Nebius Group at the very start of 2026 and simply sat tight, the result speaks loudly. Holding Nebius Group from the start of the year would have returned 84.0%, including dividends. That sort of outcome naturally sends you back to the original fork in the road. If all you had in front of you on 1 January was a premium valuation, sky high growth forecasts, heavy capital needs, and real regulatory questions, what should have mattered most in that call?
A Narrative on Simply Wall St is one investor's written case for a company, with its growth, margin and multiple assumptions spelled out. Those assumptions imply an estimated Fair Value.
This theme extends beyond Nebius Group. See which of 55 AI infrastructure stocks may still merit a closer look.
The shares cost US$83.7 at the start, and Nebius Group sat between two very different but believable stories about where the business could go next.
On the optimistic side, the bull Narrative put Fair Value at US$97.4, or 16% above the start price. It leaned heavily on a US$17.4b Microsoft deal, rapid AI demand and an assumed 160.9% revenue growth rate over three years.
The more cautious view set Fair Value at US$75, 10% below the start price. It focused on rising capital expenditure, regulatory costs and an assumed future P/E of 76.7x that depended on 123.1% revenue growth.
Nebius Group landed large AI cloud contracts and power deals, plus acquired Eigen AI, which all leaned toward the optimistic growth story. At the same time, Q2 2026 revenue reached US$582.3m from US$105.1m in Q2 2025 while net income moved from a US$502.5m profit to a loss of US$190.4m. The evidence cut both ways.
The whole call on Nebius Group hinged on whether rapid contract wins would translate into durable profitability. For other stocks built on aggressive forecasts, track both top line and net income in each report to see if growing scale is improving earnings, not just headline demand.
After an 84.0% gain from the start of the year, Nebius Group now trades at US$165. The selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits below that level, framing today’s quote as rich for a business still absorbing heavy investment and funding needs.
The Narrative leans on strong AI demand but questions how long high capital spending, regulatory costs, and competition can coexist with a premium multiple. For today’s price to hold up, a buyer has to believe Nebius can keep financing large buildouts without eroding future returns to equity holders.
"Aggressive expansion and high capital and R&D spending may drive persistent losses and margin pressure, with profitability not expected soon. Regulatory, geopolitical, and competitive challenges risk limiting growth, pricing power, and global scale amid intensifying cloud infrastructure competition."
