The reporter learned from the Ningxia Department of Ecology and Environment on the 20th that since the “14th Five-Year Plan”, Ningxia has continuously strengthened the protection and restoration of the aquatic ecological environment, and the quality of the aquatic ecological environment throughout the region has continued to stabilize and improve. By the end of 2025, the Ningxia section of the main stream of the Yellow River had maintained Class II water quality for 9 consecutive years. The proportion of excellent water quality of Class III and above in the state-controlled surface water section reached 85%, and the water quality of all 15 centralized drinking water sources monitored by the state had met standards and remained excellent. In recent years, Ningxia has strengthened water quality control in key sections, monitored changes in water quality in real time, and adopted targeted prevention and control measures to ensure that water quality is stable and up to standard. Continued investigation and remediation of sewage outlets was carried out. A total of 4,682 sewage outlets of various types were investigated, and sales numbers were rectified item by item. The remediation rate reached 97.1%. Through the implementation of ecological treatment projects for key yellow drainage ditches, the water quality of all 22 key yellow drainage ditches in the region met or was superior to Class IV surface water standards. Since the full implementation of the long system of rivers and lakes, Ningxia has regulated and rectified 236 “uncontrolled occupation and uncontrolled construction” issues in the Ningxia section of the Yellow River. Furthermore, Ningxia is promoting the quality and efficiency of sewage treatment to effectively consolidate the effectiveness of treating black and smelly water bodies. At present, all urban domestic sewage treatment plants have been built in the district to meet Class A discharge standards, and the urban domestic sewage treatment rate and collection rate have reached 99.15% and 79.8% respectively. All 13 dark and smelly water bodies have been eliminated in prefecture-level urban built-up areas throughout the region, and no dark or smelly water bodies have been detected in the investigation of 12 prefecture-level urban built-up areas.
