French Economy Minister Lescure estimated on Wednesday that losses caused by riots and violence last weekend reached “tens of millions or possibly hundreds of millions” of euros. In an interview with Radio France, Lescure said that the incident was “extremely serious in nature,” and that France is being impacted by two groups of internal violence: anarchists and thugs. He said that the government is cooperating with insurance companies to help damaged merchants and promised that the authorities will take all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again. Referring to the new round of demonstrations scheduled to be held this Saturday, Lescure said, “We will do everything we can to prevent chaos from happening again.”
