Amkor Technology Inc (NASDAQ:AMKR) shares are trading higher on Wednesday after it secured a new $1.3 billion agreement with NVIDIA to expand semiconductor packaging capacity in South Korea.
The companies plan to boost advanced packaging capacity in South Korea, aiming to increase interposer wafer capacity by more than 300% by the end of 2028.
The agreement brings the companies’ multi-year agreements in South Korea and Arizona to a combined $3 billion, supporting rising demand for next-generation AI and accelerated computing platforms.
The investments will help align Amkor’s manufacturing capacity with NVIDIA’s long-term growth plans as advanced packaging becomes increasingly important for performance, power efficiency and chip integration.
Amkor CEO Kevin Engel said the expansion strengthens the company’s global manufacturing footprint and its ability to serve customers in the U.S. and South Korea.
Amkor will also showcase its advanced packaging and testing capabilities at NVIDIA GTC in Washington, D.C., from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3.
Even with the premarket pop, the chart is still in repair mode: the stock is trading 9.2% below its 20-day SMA ($49.93) and 10.1% below its 50-day SMA ($50.42), while sitting 21.5% below the 200-day SMA ($57.70). That "below the stack" positioning helps explain why sharp news rallies can run into overhead supply quickly.
Momentum is the bigger tell right now: RSI is 29.87, which signals the selling has been stretched enough to qualify as oversold and can set up snapback rallies. Trend-wise, the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA (bearish), and the death cross that formed in September (50-day SMA below the 200-day SMA) keeps the longer-term bias pointed down unless price can reclaim key moving averages.
The countdown is on: Amkor Technology is set to report earnings on October 26, 2026 (confirmed).

The Verdict: Amkor Technology’s Benzinga Edge signal reveals a fundamentals-led setup (value/growth/quality all strong) that’s still fighting a weak momentum tape. For longer-term investors, that mix can be attractive if price can reclaim the $50–$52 area, but traders may still treat rallies as tactical until the trend improves.
AMKR Price Action: Amkor Technology shares were up 4.72% at $43.67 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
