Schindler Holding closed Thursday at CHF286.5, with the stock already reflecting a solid run over the past quarter, just as Q3 2026 figures hit the tape. The headline is clear for an elevator and escalator specialist: profitability is doing the heavy lifting. Net income for the quarter came in at CHF310 million on revenue of CHF2,833 million, reinforcing a story of fatter margins rather than breakneck top line expansion.
That is the tension you need to weigh. Short term traders are trading prints, while long term holders are watching a margin rebuild that now stretches across the trailing twelve months.

Schindler lifted EBIT margin guidance without raising revenue. Ask Charlie what is driving Schindler’s margin upgrade.
The bullish story says Schindler can turn modernization and efficiency levers into a richer earnings mix rather than just chasing volume.
"Accelerating modernization order intake, including six consecutive quarters of double digit growth and close to 50% order growth in China, points to a growing, higher margin backlog that can support earnings and EBIT margin over time as this work is executed and recognized as revenue."
Q3 backs up that idea. Modernization revenue rose 16.5%, backlog margin improved and order intake grew more than 10% in local currencies. EBIT margin widened about 100 bps year on year and guidance increased to 13.5%, which aligns with the modernization led mix shift argument.
The bear case argues that external pressures and patchy execution could dilute the benefit of that modernization backlog.
"Persistent external cost and accounting headwinds, including recurring Swiss franc strength that has reduced order intake and revenue by very large amounts over the past decade, annual gross P&L impacts from U.S. tariffs of more than CHF 30 million based on current and new measures, and the future adoption of IFRS 18 that would have reduced H1 2026 operating profit by about CHF 20 million or roughly 40 basis points of EBIT margin, could offset internal efficiency gains and restrain net margin and EBIT margin improvement."
This quarter shows both sides in play. New installation revenue was flat, held back by China weakness, and tariffs still weigh about CHF15 million on 2026 gross P&L. Even with higher EBIT margin guidance, management kept revenue targets to low to mid single digit growth and flagged China construction as a continuing risk.
