Tema ETFs launched the Tema Commodity Income ETF (TXSE:ICOM) and Tema Commodity Infrastructure ETF (TXSE:THRU), marking the firm’s entry into commodities.

  • ICOM provides indirect commodity exposure through dividend-paying companies operating across energy, precious and base metals, and agriculture. Its returns depend on both the performance of these businesses and commodity-market conditions.
  • THRU provides exposure to the infrastructure supporting commodity markets, including energy infrastructure, mining services, logistics and exchanges. Rather than focusing on commodity producers alone, it targets companies that facilitate commodity production, movement and trading.

Both ETFs offer simplified Form 1099 tax reporting without a Schedule K-1. Jake Sperber, Tema’s new head of Commodities, will manage the funds.

The launches extend a strong year for Tema. Its Space Innovators ETF (NYSE:NASA) reached $1 billion in assets in 37 trading days, becoming the second-fastest thematic ETF to hit the milestone. The firm also surpassed $5 billion in assets under management in June, three years after launching its first ETFs.

QUICK CONTEXT: Commodity ETFs Offer Portfolio Diversification

Commodities can offer investors diversification beyond traditional stock and bond holdings, particularly during periods of inflation or supply disruptions. However, exposure through commodity-linked businesses differs from owning physical commodities or futures contracts.

ICOM focuses on companies that pay dividends and could benefit from commodity-related demand, while THRU targets the businesses supporting the production, transportation and trading of commodities. Their performance will depend not only on commodity prices but also on company earnings, operating costs and broader equity-market conditions. Both funds provide investors with equity-based commodity exposure through actively managed ETFs.
