First Bank stock closed at US$18.55 before the Q3 2026 release and jumped about 4.5% to US$19.39 as traders reacted to the headline beat on profitability. The bank reported quarterly net income of US$12.2m, or US$0.49 per share, with tax equivalent net interest margin at 3.74%. That move rewards the short term crowd. The bigger story for long term investors sits in the valuation gap as First Bank trades on an 11.2x trailing P/E with a discounted price against modeled fair value.

The bullish story around First Bank hinges on better quality lending and deposits, not just a bigger balance sheet.
"First Bank is shifting new production toward C&I and owner-occupied real estate, with these categories representing 61% of originations and 62% of the loan pipeline in the first half of 2026. This points to a future mix that leans more toward operating businesses and could influence revenue quality and fee opportunities."
Q3 numbers back that ambition. Loans rose US$50.2m with a larger push into middle market C&I, while loan yields moved to 6.48% and tax equivalent NIM held at 3.74%. That, alongside US$90m of wholesale paydown and US$44m less brokered deposits, shows concrete progress toward the higher quality, better funded book the thesis calls for.
The bear case centers on whether credit fixes really stick, especially in Business Express.
"Remediation of the credit-scored small business portfolio, including tighter underwriting, revised sales processes, staff changes and specific reserves, is designed to bring elevated net charge-offs and credit costs back toward more normalized levels and could have a direct effect on future provision expense and returns."
Q3 credit data is mixed. Provision expense held at US$2.2m and the allowance stayed near 1.37% of loans with 132% nonperforming loan coverage, which supports the clean up story. Yet net charge offs edged up to US$1.9m, with about 95% of year to date losses still from Business Express. Management flags moderating delinquencies, but lingering runoff losses keep this risk very much alive.
