Media reports on Monday showed that Volkswagen may promote the software it currently uses on models in the Chinese market to its mainstream European models. This move may marginalize the company's American partner Rivian. According to Manager Magazin, citing sources, Volkswagen's “China Electronics and Electric Architecture” may become the technical foundation for future models of the group's core brands. The architecture was developed by Volkswagen in collaboration with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xiaopeng Motor for Chinese models. Core brand head Thomas Schaefer is expected to submit the plan to management on Tuesday, the report said. The plan will cover about three-quarters of the next generation models of the three brands mentioned above, which are currently increasing their electric vehicle lineup in Europe.
