According to a report by Japan's Fuji News Network on October 27, Japan's Minister in charge of disaster prevention, Hosono Takeshi said on a TV program that the Japanese government will formally establish the Disaster Prevention Agency on November 2, and will issue an “urgent appeal” to Japanese government agencies, all prefectures, and Japanese citizens on the same day, urging preparations to deal with the disaster. Hosono said he called on Japanese people to store food and drinking water at home that can be used for at least 3 days, preferably for a week, and prepare a toilet environment. Hosono also said that preparing for “national disaster-level disasters” such as the eruption of Mt. Fuji, the Nankai Trough earthquake, and the earthquake directly below the capital is a major issue.
