Shenandoah Telecommunications stock slipped 2.2% to US$9.81 on the day it posted third quarter 2026 results, a muted reaction for a telecom that reported its strongest fiber driven profitability profile of the year. Revenue came in at US$93.9 million and adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation reached US$33.2 million, a margin that expanded at a faster pace than sales. Traders are focused on another quarter of losses. Long term holders are weighing a business that management says is exiting its heavy build phase and is aiming for free cash flow in 2027.

Optimists argue that Shenandoah Telecommunications is already turning its fiber build into visible, compounding benefits.
"Accelerating expansion and penetration of Glo Fiber, with consistently rising broadband subscriber additions (+43% YoY) and growing adoption of higher speed tiers, positions Shenandoah to capture outsized revenue growth and ARPU uplift as broadband demand increases and more rural/suburban households require robust connectivity."
The latest quarter backs up the scale part of that story. Glo Fiber passings reached about 501,000, broadband penetration improved, and fiber now accounts for just over half of total revenue. Adjusted EBITDA is growing faster than sales, which supports the margin angle, although reported ARPU was slightly lower and net losses continue.
Bears worry that heavy spending and competitive pressure could blunt that fiber momentum and weigh on cash generation.
"Accelerated capital expenditures to pull forward government grant-related buildouts creates near-term funding pressure and increases execution risk; if rapid penetration rates in newly constructed areas do not continue, this could lead to lower-than-expected free cash flow and higher debt burdens."
Capex is now guided up to US$255 million to US$275 million for 2026 and net leverage is expected near 5.7x to 5.8x EBITDA, so the balance sheet is working harder. Penetration in older fiber cohorts is strong and government funded passings are tracking well, yet the business is still loss making and free cash flow only targeted from 2027.
