Generac Holdings came into this Q3 2026 print with a mixed story. The share price had slipped over the past month, yet expectations around backup power and data centers were running high. Then the stock jumped 3.9% on the day as investors digested a quarter built on record US$1.29b revenue and a sharp lift in adjusted EBITDA to US$256m.
The reputation is all about long term power exposure. This set of numbers is really about margin strength. Free cash flow of US$132m in the quarter gives that share price move something concrete behind it.

The bullish story hinges on Generac Holdings turning huge data center demand into durable, higher quality earnings rather than just a one off spike.
"A key factor will be Generac Holdings successfully scaling and integrating its expanded large megawatt and C&I capacity so that rising data center, rental, and telecom demand contributes to sustainable profitability rather than being offset by higher investment and tariff related costs."
Q3 gives concrete progress. C&I sales rose with over US$100m of data center shipments, segment EBITDA margin reached 12.5%, and group adjusted EBITDA margin hit 19.8% with US$132m of free cash flow. Management is lifting full year margin guidance while ramping new megawatt facilities, which suggests that capacity expansion is currently occurring alongside solid profitability.

Bearish analysts worry that Generac Holdings could overbuild large megawatt capacity if data center enthusiasm cools or customers pivot to other solutions.
"Although Generac Holdings has secured large multi year hyperscale supply agreements and a sizeable data center backlog, any slowdown in AI infrastructure ordering or a shift in procurement toward alternative technologies could leave the company with excess large megawatt capacity and lower utilization, which would pressure C&I revenue growth and dilute operating margins."
This quarter does not resolve that concern. The data center backlog has swelled to about US$4.5b and management plans to roughly triple capacity. Yet only a little over US$100m of quarterly data center shipments is visible so far. C&I EBITDA margin of 12.5% improved, but the mix drag flagged in guidance, with Q4 gross margin easing to 37% to 38%, shows early signs of the profitability trade off that the bearish narrative highlights. Execution looks on track today, although utilization risk beyond current Amazon linked volumes remains untested.
