The bank is delaying the sale of a $15 billion loan to fund the Anthropic PBC-related data center bond issuance plan after the US state of Texas suspended approval for a new project due to grid risk assessments. The delay in issuing bonds comes at a time when Anthropic is investing heavily in computing infrastructure prior to its large-scale initial public offering, which will force banks to hold this debt on their balance sheets longer than originally planned. Lenders led by Morgan Stanley have raised around $15 billion to fund the construction of a data center in Hubbard near Waco, Texas. According to people familiar with the matter, the bank originally hoped to sell 5 billion to 7 billion US dollars to high-yield bond investors in September to refinance some of the loans. Sales are now likely to take place in batches over the next year. The debt package includes a $14.2 billion one-year loan and a $1.4 billion five-year revolving credit line. The lender is seeking to refinance part of the loan through high-yield bond investors.
