Xerox Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ:XRX) stock plunged Thursday despite the printing and digital services company reporting better-than-expected third-quarter 2026 earnings and revenue as investors weighed a sharply reduced full-year profit and cash flow forecast.

Xerox Beats Earnings Estimates

Xerox reported adjusted earnings of 2 cents per share, beating analysts’ consensus estimate for a loss of 4 cents.

Revenue declined to $1.87 billion from $1.96 billion a year earlier but topped Wall Street’s estimate of $1.86 billion. On a pro forma basis, including Lexmark in the prior-year comparison, revenue fell 6.5%.

GAAP net loss widened to $1.02 billion from $760 million a year earlier.

Adjusted operating income rose to $124 million from $65 million, while adjusted operating margin expanded to 6.6% from 3.3%.

Segment Performance And Cash Flow

Print and Other segment revenue declined to $1.69 billion from $1.74 billion a year earlier. IT Solutions revenue fell to $187 million from $226 million.

Operating cash flow declined to $30 million from $116 million a year earlier. Free cash flow fell to $7 million from $88 million.

Xerox ended the quarter with $412 million in cash and cash equivalents, down from $512 million at the end of 2025.

Long-term debt increased to $4.06 billion from $4.02 billion at year-end.

Equipment Sales Show Signs Of Recovery

CEO Louie Pastor said revenue declined less than 5%, while equipment revenue increased 3%, marking its first growth in more than three years.

Production equipment revenue climbed 14%, supported by improving demand and new product offerings.

Xerox expects additional market share gains as new platforms launch in 2027.

The company identified production printing as a key growth opportunity, supported by new products and its partnership with Zycon, which expands its presence in packaging and labels.

Xerox estimates the production printing market at approximately $9 billion and is targeting faster-growing segments.

IT Solutions Faces Pressure

Xerox sees long-term opportunities in IT Solutions through its installed customer base, relationships with Microsoft and major equipment manufacturers, and scalable service delivery.

However, slower salesforce expansion, delayed customer purchasing decisions and tighter supplier and distributor terms have weighed on near-term performance.

Management also cited weaker print demand, rising input costs and unfavorable product mix as ongoing challenges.

Xerox Plans Price Increases And Cost Cuts

Xerox plans to raise prices across portions of its portfolio beginning in the first quarter of 2027 to offset higher costs.

The company is also tightening equipment-placement discipline, simplifying its organizational structure and expanding global capability centers.

Additional initiatives include consolidating distribution centers and real estate while renegotiating vendor contracts.

Xerox expects approximately $100 million in additional year-over-year savings from Lexmark integration synergies in 2027.

AI And Remote Service Could Boost Margins

Pastor identified service operations as Xerox’s largest long-term profit improvement opportunity.

The company plans to use connected devices, sensors, artificial intelligence and remote troubleshooting to reduce technician visits and lower service costs.

Xerox currently resolves slightly more than half of service calls remotely and aims to increase that figure to 70%.

Xerox Moves To Reduce Debt

Reducing leverage remains the company’s top capital-allocation priority.

Xerox suspended common and preferred dividends, a move expected to preserve approximately $28 million annually.

The company also announced a debt exchange transaction involving approximately $174 million of notes due in 2028.

The transaction will extend about $121 million of debt maturities to 2030 and reduce outstanding principal by approximately $53 million.

The cashless exchange is designed to preserve liquidity while keeping cash interest expenses roughly unchanged.

Xerox Slashes Profit And Cash Flow Forecasts

Xerox maintained its full-year 2026 revenue forecast of approximately $7.6 billion, matching Wall Street estimates.

However, the company lowered its adjusted operating income forecast to $450 million to $475 million from its previous range of $555 million to $605 million.

Xerox also cut its free cash flow forecast to $50 million to $100 million from its earlier projection of $250 million.

Management attributed the reductions to higher memory and oil costs, a shift toward lower-margin entry-level equipment, weaker print demand and disappointing IT Solutions performance.

Pastor warned that these pressures would continue into 2027.

Xerox plans to offset the challenges through higher prices, cost reductions, service efficiencies, Lexmark integration savings and debt reduction.

Heavy Trading Highlights Stock Volatility

Xerox shares experienced heightened trading activity Thursday as investors reacted to the company’s reduced financial forecasts.

Session volume reached approximately 14.94 million shares, more than five times the 100-day average of 2.98 million shares.

With a market capitalization of approximately $366.37 million at Wednesday’s close, Xerox remains a micro-cap stock vulnerable to sharp price swings.

XRX Price Action: Xerox Holdings shares were down 36.74% at $1.76 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
