According to an internal investigation report obtained by the media, a top military planning official at the US Pentagon admitted to leaking confidential information about Ukraine and Iran to reporters in two different media over a period of more than a year. Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia was sacked by Secretary of Defense Hegseth this week on suspicion of misconduct, US officials said. After failing all four lie tests, he acknowledged the relevant behavior via video. The report accuses him of “unauthorised disclosure of information to the media.” According to the investigation report and US officials, Sylvia began leaking secrets as early as June 2025. Since then, he has continued to connect with reporters through the encrypted communication app Signal, and has met with reporters at a restaurant in Arlington, Virginia. The report said: “During the meeting at the restaurant, Sylvia relied on the notes she made when reviewing a confidential report to verbally provide the other party with information on US aid to Ukraine.”
