Avantor just posted its Q3 2026 scorecard and the stock barely flinched. Shares slipped 0.06% to US$16.68, a flat reaction to what was, on the surface, a sharp earnings rebound. Basic earnings per share landed at about US$0.30 on US$1.70b in sales, a far cleaner print than recent quarters.
The market still treats Avantor as a slow grind recovery story. The quarter instead put the spotlight on a different issue that matters more right now: the balance sheet and the strain from carrying debt against only recently restored profitability.

Ask Charlie what made Avantor raise guidance after Revival progress.
The bullish pitch around Avantor is that better execution, not just healthier labs demand, can rebuild growth, margins and cash generation.
"Revival driven improvements in execution, throughput and commercial discipline that already show up in sequential EBITDA growth above 15% from Q1 to Q2 2026 could create further room for Avantor to lift earnings and free cash flow without relying on faster end markets."
Q3 puts clearer proof points on that claim. Organic revenue rose 5.2% with both VWR and Bioscience & MedTech Products back in positive territory. About half of VWR’s 5.8% organic lift is credited to Revival actions, while BMP margins held at 26.6%. Management also raised 2026 EPS and free cash flow guidance and cut net debt by US$173m, which directly ties operational gains to stronger cash and leverage metrics.

Bearish research argues that Avantor’s Revival wins will not show up cleanly in reported growth or profitability.
"Despite double digit order growth and a 1.1x book to bill ratio in Bioscience & Medtech Products, the combination of ongoing organic revenue decline and external research pointing to share loss in VWR with forecasts for flat revenue over the next 12 months raises the risk that order strength does not convert into sustained top line growth or improved EBITDA margin."
Q3 pushes back on the idea of ongoing strain. Both VWR and Bioscience & MedTech Products posted organic expansion and solid margins, and company guidance now points to positive full year organic growth and higher adjusted EPS. The miss against the bearish script is that conversion is happening, just not yet at a pace that removes execution risk.
