Terex (TEX) Stock Rallies On Q3 Results Backed By Margin Gains

Simply Wall St·10/30/2026 01:39:23
Listen to the news

Terex just dropped Q3 2026 numbers and the market loved it. The stock jumped 6% to US$56.55 by Thursday’s close, a sharp rebound for a share price that had fallen about 10% over the past three months. That kind of one day burst looks emotional at first glance, yet the headline story is hard to ignore. Revenue landed at US$2.2b and basic earnings per share came in just above US$1, supported by a 13% adjusted EBITDA margin that matters a lot in heavy equipment.

Today’s move looks less like a sugar high and more like investors finally catching up to the margin story. A 53% jump in bookings and a roughly US$7b backlog add some weight to the optimism, even as earlier concerns about weak interest coverage and shareholder dilution still hang over the longer term narrative.

Love Terex’s fresh margin story and booming backlog but still uneasy about balance sheet questions and past dilution worries? Filter for industrial names with sturdier finances and cleaner capital structures in the list of solid balance sheet and fundamentals stocks (22 results).

Q3 2026 Earnings Summary

  • Revenue (Q3 2026 vs Q3 2025): US$2,197 million vs. US$1,387 million (up about 59%)
  • Net Income, Excl. Extra Items (Q3 2026 vs Q3 2025): US$114 million vs. US$65 million (up about 75%)
  • Basic EPS (Q3 2026 vs Q3 2025): US$1.01 vs. US$0.99 (up about 2%)
  • Adjusted EBITDA Margin (Q3 2026 vs prior year pro forma): ~13% vs. ~12.8% (slight margin improvement)

Earnings are one thing, but investors who care about what they are really paying for Terex tend to follow the cash flowing through the business over time rather than a single quarter’s profit line. On Terex's latest cash flows alone, the stock could be a striking 41% undervalued.

Terex backlog and synergy goals under the microscope

The bullish story hangs on Terex turning policy backed demand and the REV deal into higher quality earnings and cash.

"Synergies and integration benefits originally highlighted around ESG are now extended by the REV merger, with Terex reporting that both Environmental Solutions and Specialty Vehicles are tracking above their business cases and targeting US$75m of REV related run rate synergies within 24 months, which could support operating margins, EBITDA and free cash flow."

Q3 adjusted EBITDA margin of about 13% and a roughly US$7b backlog show that scale and mix are helping profitability. Guidance now bakes in US$28m of realized synergies for 2026, so part of that US$75m ambition is already flowing through, but not yet in full.

Testing Terex margin worries against Q3 trends

The bear case argues that integration noise, tariffs and mix could erode profitability just as expectations rise.

"The main thing that has to go right is that Terex continues to improve and hold margins through tariff headwinds, mix shifts, and integration of Environmental Solutions and Specialty Vehicles while capturing the remaining synergies now built into guidance."

Q3 tells a mixed story. Group adjusted EBITDA margin edged up to roughly 13%, helped by Materials Processing at 19.3% and Specialty Vehicles at 16%. Environmental Solutions went the other way, with sales declining and margin sliding to 13.3% as mix skewed and Waukesha ramp issues hit. Management also trimmed full year EBITDA guidance by about US$30m to US$40m, which shows the margin test is very real.

Hunt For Mispriced Cash Generators

Terex just showed how quickly sentiment can shift when margins and backlog improve together. The real opportunity sits in finding stocks that could be undervalued before the market closes the gap.

  • Company 1 - 31% below our estimate - turn long term optical and solar supply deals and customer prepayments into a higher margin earnings mix.
  • Company 2 - 16% below our estimate - expand manufacturing capacity so higher value photonics packaging for AI data centers and telecom fills the new footprint.
  • Company 3 - 36% below our estimate - scale a device recommerce platform as trade in subsidies and eco policies push more users into structured refurbishment and resale.

Those are three of them. See all 30 potentially undervalued companies →
