Seplat Energy entered this Q3 2026 print with its stock already on a tear, up 54.2% over 90 days and closing at £8.88 on 30 October. Expectations were set high for another clean beat from a company seen as a growth vehicle in African oil and gas. The headline instead was a profit squeeze. Net income from continuing operations for the trailing twelve months sat at $324.2m on $3.3b of revenue, while Q3 quarterly earnings of $95.5m on $943.5m of sales pointed to pressure on profitability that the share price did not fully reflect.

Earnings surged even as future revenue is forecast to shrink. Ask Charlie what Seplat Energy’s strong EPS growth masks.
The bullish script argues Seplat Energy is already executing its shift toward gas and higher value liquids.
"The main thing that has to go right is Seplat Energy successfully scaling its gas and liquids pivot. This includes bringing ANOH and Sapele closer to full use, easing export bottlenecks, and sustaining low unit opex while executing up to US$3 billion of capex."
Q3 shows pieces of this playing out rather than fully landing. Unit production costs eased to US$14.60 per BOE, which supports the low opex claim. Earnings and revenue are both higher year on year, indicating the asset base is pulling its weight. Yet net margins tightened, so the full earnings uplift from ANOH, Sapele and export fixes is not in the numbers.
The bear case leans hard on the risk that infrastructure and fiscal friction blunt the gas build out.
"Although Seplat Energy highlights progress at the ANOH gas plant, the facility is still running at about 60% capacity because third party condensate and gas export routes are constrained. This risks pushing out the timing of expected gas revenue growth and delaying any uplift to group earnings from this project."
Q3 profitability supports that concern. Revenue reached US$943.46m with net income of US$95.50m, so the margin is thinner despite lower unit costs. Trailing twelve month profit of US$324.2m on US$3.3b of sales also points to a squeeze. The gas pivot is helping on costs but limited utilization and tax drag still cap earnings progress.
