Textron (TXT) Stock Slips As Q3 Earnings Lift Cash And Guidance

Simply Wall St·10/31/2026 00:49:58
Listen to the news

Textron came into this Q3 2026 report with its stock quietly grinding higher over the past month, then slipped about 2% to around US$85.70 once the earnings hit. That reaction jars with the headline story. The company just posted solid adjusted earnings power, with Q3 adjusted EPS at US$1.76 and manufacturing cash flow before pension contributions at US$418 million, both paired with higher full year EPS and cash flow guidance.

Earnings tell you what Textron reported for the quarter, but cash flow shows what actually landed in the bank and supports any long term valuation case.

Looking at Textron's cash generation and applying a discounted cash flow lens, the stock could be a solid 30% undervalued.

Textron’s Execution Story Meets Real Program Milestones

"Resolution of productivity and supply chain issues at Textron Aviation, where management has quantified an estimated US$150 million incremental profit and roughly 200 basis point margin opportunity, could shift the segment mix toward higher incremental margins in the 20% to 25% range and drive a step up in group earnings power."

Textron is at least moving this ambition from slideware toward factory floor reality. Aviation revenue reached US$1.7b with higher jet deliveries, aftermarket activity rose 10%, and segment profit increased, which supports the idea that throughput is improving. Management also called out targeted automation, new tooling and dual sourcing, which represents a concrete response to the productivity and supply snags this thesis hinges on.

Textron Bears Still Waiting For Margin Pain

Bearish investors worry Textron will not fix its factories fast enough and that self funded programs will keep compressing cash.

"Textron is investing in productivity tools and capacity additions at Aviation and Bell. However, recent flat segment profit of US$353 million on US$3.8 billion of revenue and manufacturing cash flow before pension contributions of US$154 million compared with US$336 million previously suggest that if operational fixes take longer than management expects, the tighter pure-play structure could leave limited room to protect earnings and free cash flow."

This quarter cuts against that fear. Aviation profit improved, Systems lifted margins, manufacturing cash flow reached US$418 million and full year cash guidance moved higher. Bell profit is still softer and keeps the execution risk alive, yet the MV 75 funding overhang eased after Above Threshold Reprogramming and contract modifications. Textron has not fully disproved the bearish margin story, although the Q3 mix of higher earnings, stronger cash conversion and raised guidance does not show the prolonged squeeze that pessimists anticipated for 2026.
