NSK has been treated as a steady earnings recovery story, and the latest Q2 2027 report throws that view into sharper relief. The share price closed at ¥1,002.5 on 30 October, capping a roughly 13% decline over three months, even as the business reported another solid profit line. Revenue reached ¥264,713 million and basic earnings per share came in at ¥18.66, reinforcing a picture of improving profitability that does not match the recent slide in the stock.

NSK’s medium term plan leans heavily on making Industrial Machinery more profitable, not just bigger.
"NSK is still focusing on expanding its industrial machinery sales mix toward higher margin aftermarket, consumer and precision machinery products. The plan to lift Industrial Machinery operating margin from 3.3% in FY2025 to 10% by FY2028 points to a potential uplift in segment earnings and overall net margins."
Group revenue and net income are advancing, and the trailing 12 month net margin of 3.1% sits above the 2.2% level a year ago. That is early confirmation that pricing and mix are moving in the right direction, although the scale of the margin jump still lies ahead.
Critics focus less on intent and more on whether restructuring and product mix changes actually come through in earnings quality.
"Structural reforms in Europe, Japan, the Americas and China now have quantified onetime costs through FY2028 and targeted benefits peaking at JPY 17.5 billion. Management expects about two thirds of the JPY 44 billion operating income uplift versus FY2025 to come from price increases, cost reductions and portfolio changes, which would directly support operating margins and ROE."
Current profitability improvements and solid Q2 earnings suggest no immediate shortfall against that ambition. At the same time, the roughly 13% share price decline over 90 days signals investors still want clearer evidence that these structural gains will endure.
