12:41 AM EST, 11/02/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Switzerland reopened its diplomatic office in North Korea to reestablish its physical presence and resume direct lines of communication between Bern and Pyongyang, allowing the former to monitor regional developments. Under the authority of the Swiss Embassy in Beijing, China, the new diplomatic office has been operational since Oct. 19, restoring a permanent Swiss presence in the country, according to an Oct. 31 release. Switzerland noted that the move restarts a diplomatic relationship between the two nations dating back to 1974, which included regular political consultations until 2019.
