Salesforce continues the recent wave of acquisitions, announcing plans to acquire Cresta, a nine-year-old supplier of AI-driven contact center automation software. Salesforce did not disclose the deal price, but has agreed to buy Cresta for $2.7 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. The acquisition shows that the software giant is vastly strengthening its customer service business to meet challenges from startups like Sierra. In September of this year, Salesforce just completed the acquisition of Fin, an AI intelligent customer service provider, with a transaction value of 3.6 billion dollars. Cresta was originally a project of Stanford University's Artificial Intelligence Lab and was co-founded in 2017 by computer scientist Sebastian Thrun, who has pioneered several AI projects at Google, and Tim Shi and Zayd Enam. The company reached a valuation of $1.6 billion after completing a Series C round in 2022, but its latest recent valuation is not yet known. According to PitchBook, Cresta has raised over $280 million from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Tiger Global Fund.
