James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas, said he would seek cooperation with President Donald Trump on healthcare, housing and regulatory changes.

While speaking on "The Diary of a CEO" podcast, published on Monday, Talarico said he would work with Trump if elected. "I would love, as the next U.S. senator from Texas, to work with Donald Trump to actually fulfill some of the promises of his political project," Talarico said.

He said there was still time for Trump to fulfill his promises through ‘bipartisan’ cooperation during the final two years of his term.

Talarico said Trump’s "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) platform promised to transform government for people who had been left behind or forgotten. He said he would work with Trump or fellow Democrats to broaden healthcare access, build millions of homes and "slash the red tape."

The Democrat also described the upcoming midterm elections as a potential "wake up call" for the President, urging the administration to “reverse course” and work with both parties for working Americans.

“If the people of this country elect leaders who are going to check the president, I think it could be a rebirth for his presidency,” he said.

Trump Targets Talarico as Texas Senate Race Tightens

Texas state legislator James Talarico is facing Attorney General Ken Paxton in a closely watched Senate race, with a recent New York Times/Siena poll showing Talarico leading by 7 percentage points. Notably, billionaire Elon Musk has donated $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which then transferred matching amounts to a political group backing Paxton.

Trump has campaigned in Texas four times, attacking Talarico as "Democrat Communist" and accusing him of wanting to dismantle the state’s oil and gas industry and capitalism, putting millions of jobs at risk.

Last month, Vice President JD Vance said the Trump administration is invoking the Defense Production Act to expand fuel production at Delek US Holdings Inc.‘s (NYSE:DK) Tyler, Texas refinery, aiming to increase commercial-grade and military-spec fuel output, lower energy costs, strengthen supply security and create hundreds of local jobs.

Talarico’s proposal comes as Trump has raised the stakes around the 2026 midterms amid the possibility that Republicans could lose control of the House. In an interview published on Monday, Trump said he would become "Mr. Veto" if Republicans lost their House majority, while indicating negotiations could eventually follow.
